At Burleigh Sandpiper, we believe that a positive kindergarten experience is where a child's lifelong journey begins. Our commitment to smaller class sizes ensures a nurturing environment that sets the stage for a successful educational path. Research has shown that students who have the privilege of being guided by experienced educators during these formative years are more likely to achieve higher earnings and future educational milestones by the age of 27. It's our belief that the seeds of lifelong success are planted in kindergarten, and we're here to help cultivate those opportunities for your child.
Encourage learning at home by engaging your child in conversations and shared book reading. These activities can be initiated during the preschool years and carried through kindergarten, helping younger kindergartners catch up with their older peers in academic skills.
Focus on positive reinforcement to encourage and motivate relatively younger children in the classroom. Avoid a pattern of constant negative feedback, as it may discourage them from following instructions. Aim for a positive-to-corrective feedback ratio, with at least three positive statements for every correction or redirection.
Meet with your child's teacher early in the school year to discuss specific goals tailored to your child's strengths and areas for growth. Establish realistic and achievable weekly or monthly goals to track individual progress and minimize relative comparisons.
Implement regular check-ins with teachers to monitor your child's academic and behavioural progress. Waiting until the end of the school year is less effective for making adjustments. Frequent check-ins also provide opportunities to reward and praise your child's successes.
Remember that kindergarten is just the beginning of your child's educational journey, spanning nearly two decades. As children progress through their education, the significance of age differences in academic performance diminishes. Focus on nurturing their love for learning and development throughout their educational journey.
